About Us

Humanitarian Women's Association Duga

Humanitarian Women's Association "Duga" is the first non-governmental organization in the Republic of Srpska, established in 1992 through the spontaneous gathering of women from Banja Luka, aimed at providing assistance to people of all nationalities in need.

At its inception, the association's goal was to offer psychosocial support and recovery to the population, especially women and children, who were affected by trauma. Today, our mission is to psychologically and economically empower unemployed women, preserve traditions and culture, including folk arts (crocheting, knitting, sewing, embroidery, weaving, pottery, necklace-making, silk painting, and many others), and pass these skills onto younger generations.

Adapting to the needs of our beneficiaries, "Duga" has adjusted and expanded its programs, enriching the content of its work and applying a model based on the principles of spiritual and economic empowerment of women and their families through work, learning, and socializing.

Furthermore, in the creation and packaging of handmade products, we embrace an ecological approach by using natural materials, contributing to environmental preservation.

For our longstanding efforts, we have received numerous awards, among the most significant are:

  • Silver Medal at the International Women Inventors Fair for the innovation "Doll in Traditional Attire" in Seoul,
  • Participation at the EXPO fair in Shanghai,
  • Plaque of the City of Banja Luka for humanitarian efforts in 2011,
  • Participation in the nomination and inclusion of the "Zmijanjka Weave" on the UNESCO list in 2014, and more.

Our work is open, transparent, volunteer-based, with over 200,000 volunteer hours invested.
